Kindroid and Nomi AI are the two highest-scoring companion apps in our full ranking, and it’s not a coincidence that they’re also the two that lead with memory as their central marketing claim rather than treating it as one feature among many. Both back that claim with real, independently verifiable app-store review volume, a rarer thing in this category than either company’s marketing implies.

Memory architecture

Kindroid’s system is the more elaborate on paper: five distinct layers (immediate, short-term, long-term, a persistent “core identity,” and relationship history), plus a separately editable Key Memories vault and Backstory. It’s documented in detail in Kindroid’s own help center, not just asserted. Nomi’s approach is described more simply, short, medium, and long-term retention layers, with the company’s emphasis landing more on “emotional intelligence,” reading and responding to conversational tone, than on the mechanics of what’s stored.

In practice, both have documented weaknesses. Kindroid’s most consistent app-store complaint is memory failure on long sessions, the exact feature it’s built around. Nomi’s App Store reviews skew more positive on memory specifically, though its Trustpilot sample, smaller and more mixed, includes complaints that don’t isolate memory as cleanly.

Kindroid’s entry paid tier is $13.99/month on the web (higher through the iOS/Android apps), with two optional add-on tiers stacking on top for larger context windows, up to roughly $68.99/month combined at the top end. Nomi’s Launch Plan starts at $9.99/month, with a Standard Plan at $15.99/month that drops to about $8.33/month on annual billing, plus an optional credit system for extra selfies, art, video, and companions. Nomi is the cheaper entry point; Kindroid’s add-on tiers give more room to scale spend if you specifically want a larger memory/context window than the base plan offers.

Privacy

This is where the two diverge most. Kindroid encrypts chat data at rest and in transit, though not end-to-end, and documents this directly in its legal terms, which also grant the company a license to de-identify and aggregate user content. Nomi’s policy is more concerning on one specific point: it explicitly states that even after you delete your account, data already folded into “training or communications archives” is retained, just no longer attributed to you, with no clear opt-out described. Age verification is self-attested on both platforms; Nomi is the more candid of the two about this, stating outright that stronger verification isn’t fully built yet.

Verdict

If long-term memory continuity is the single feature you care about most and you’re willing to pay for larger context windows, Kindroid’s five-layer architecture and add-on tiers give you more to work with, provisional on the well-documented risk that even a sophisticated memory system can still drop context on long sessions. If you want the cheaper entry point and don’t mind a privacy policy that retains anonymized data indefinitely, Nomi is the better value, and its App Store review base is currently the more positive of the two.
